Last Saturday the Spartans participated in the first ever Chum/LSC Jamboree. There were 8 teams involved and the team played three games, each with 20 minute halves.
In the first game the Spartans faced Duluth Marshall. After a sloppy first half, the boys came alive to dominate possession and score three goals! Aiden Pagnucci, Evan Strauch and Oliver Farrell each scored while Chase Danielson had 2 assists and Zack Monaghan also had an assist. Brady Bachand and Josiah Bush combined for the shutout in goal. The final was a 3-0 victory and a great start to the day.
After an hour break, the Spartans faced Bemidji in the second game. The boys opened the scoring on a beautiful goal by Spencer Kidd that was assisted by Zack Monaghan. Unfortunately, Bemidji snagged a phenomenal goal on a free kick at the beginning of the second half. While the Spartans again held possession, a second goal was never threatened. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
From there the boys quickly changed fields and had no time to rest as game three against Grand Rapids was on. Both teams looked tired and beat from the extreme heat. There were a few shots on the Spartans behalf, but none that went through. Our defense was solid, and our goalies didn't see much action. Everyone seemed content to finish the day with a 0-0 tie.
Overall it was great day for soccer and a nice way to start the preseason. The Spartans finished 1-0-2 on the day and only gave up one goal, securing two shutouts. The captains chose Zack Monaghan (pictured above) as the Spartans "Man of the Match" with 2 assists on the day.
Contact practices are in session and conditioning starts this Friday! Let's go Spartans!
